I have spent my life dedicated to healing, first as a physician focused on the health of the body, and now as a psychotherapist with a deep appreciation for the mind-body connection. I believe that our overall wellness and health is deeply rooted in our psychological health.

If you are reading this, you are already seeking growth, healing, transformation, and change. It can be hard to know where to start! I believe that therapy can be that opportunity.

You don’t have to do this alone.

I look forward to meeting you and beginning this journey toward wholeness and health!

ABOUT ME

My name is Meagan Holden and I am an associate marriage and family therapist. I am also a mother of two young daughters, a wife, and a former anesthesiologist and critical care doctor. I love nature, travel, delicious food (and cooking it), and believe deeply that therapy can be transformational.

I graduated from Stanford University in 2001 with a BA with honors in Human Biology. I returned to Stanford University for my MD, graduating in 2007. I completed my medical internship at California Pacific Medical Center. Then I went on to the University of California San Francisco to complete my residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. After over 20 years in medicine, I decided to return to school at the California Institute of Integral Studies to receive my MA in Integral Psychology. I went on to the Marina Counseling Center where I completed practicum. I am currently earning my hours towards licensure.

My clients often have a lot of curiosity about why I changed careers. It was a big leap! Through my own life journey, I have discovered that mental health is truly key to our overall health and well-being. I realized this was the kind of healing I wanted to be a part of. I also have lived through great change in my own life and can walk with you in yours.

Do you want more from life? Feel held back?  Overwhelmed?

It might be hard to believe but you already hold the key to the answers you are seeking and our work together is to explore and find your own unique, inner wisdom.

WHO I WORK WITH

I work with teenagers, adults, couples, and families facing a wide variety of challenges from anxiety, depression, and trauma to those who want more from their lives, careers, and relationships.

Anxiety

Some studies report that as many as 1 in 5 adults have symptoms of anxiety. Many more of us have times in our lives where we feel more anxious and could use support. In our work together, we can help you develop the tools to both understand where your anxiety comes from and how to approach it.

Health Care Professionals

Having had a career in medicine for 20 years, I bring a unique understanding of the traumas and challenges that face health care providers and the burnout that can accompany them. It can be helpful and healing to talk through these issues with someone who understands them.

Trauma/PTSD/CPTSD

Many of us have experienced trauma in our lives and may not know how to begin to process it or even how it may be showing up in our daily lives. In our work together, we can start to unpackage this and shift how it shows up.

Depression

One in 10 Americans have experienced symptoms of depression. Yet when you are one of them you can feel incredibly alone and like nothing will ever change. The good news is that you don’t have to be alone and change is possible.

Major life transitions

Whether it is contemplating a new career, beginning or ending a relationship, or becoming a parent, it can be incredibly supportive to have someone to walk on that journey with you. To be authentic to ourselves, these life transitions are sometimes necessary. But you don’t have to go through them alone.

Parenting

There is nothing quite like being a parent. It can feel very overwhelming and like you are starting from scratch with each new phase. It can also be hard to know how to navigate the particular challenges our children bring us or where to turn. Being a mother I know this intimately. Therapy can be supportive and creative in this phase of life.

FAQs

  • The best way to start is to schedule a brief phone consultation. During this call, you will have an opportunity to discuss what it is that brings you to my office, what you hope to get out of therapy, and any other questions that you may have. You will also have a chance to ask me any questions you might have about who I am and how I work. If it seems like a good fit, we can set up our first session and go from there.

  • Sessions are typically 50 min once per week. In some situations, additional weekly sessions may feel supportive and speed the growth and depth of work.

Therapy is a commitment that you make to and for yourself. In general, consistency and frequency are important to seeing its benefit and feeling better.

  • Yes, I offer virtual therapy via Zoom, as well as in-person therapy sessions in my office on Union Street.

  • I am an out-of-network provider, which means that I will not bill your insurance directly.

I can provide monthly statements for you to submit to your insurance company. If you want to go this route, please verify with your insurance that they cover out-of-network mental health services.

  • Please call me to discuss this. I do offer sliding scale fees to couples and teens that would not otherwise be able to afford therapy. I am happy to talk this through with you.

If for any reason I am unable to provide what you need, I will do my best to help you to find a therapist that offers what you are seeking.
